Art Rooted in Place
Discover how ARTISTA’s art collection was shaped by Monteverde, bringing together Costa Rican artists, artisans, traditions and contemporary perspectives in a curatorial approach rooted in place.

Art Rooted in Place
At ARTISTA, art was never an afterthought added to finished spaces. The curatorial process began much earlier with a simple idea: before choosing the artwork, we first had to listen to the place.
Monteverde’s forest, mist, light, materials, architecture, traditions and memories all became part of the starting point.
The collection brings together different interpretations of Costa Rica, from Chorotega ceramics made in Guaitil and San Vicente and embroidery by women from the local CASEM cooperative, to photography, painting, printmaking and contemporary art.
The goal was not simply to fill the villas with things that could be labeled “local.” Instead, each artist and maker contributes a different perspective on the country, allowing every piece to become another way of experiencing its landscape, culture and memory.
This approach also creates direct connections with artists, artisans, cooperatives, regional suppliers and traditional crafts, bringing local knowledge and creativity into the guest experience.
Every artwork and artistic piece at ARTISTA was selected through an intentional curatorial process, connecting in some way to Costa Rican identity, landscape, culture, memory or craftsmanship. None were included simply as decoration.
ARTISTA’s identity was not simply designed for Costa Rica; it was shaped alongside people who understand and interpret this place from within it. And that connection to place extends beyond the artwork—it can also be experienced in the way the villas relate to the forest, welcome natural light and airflow, and create spaces designed for rest and wellbeing.
